A Thai actor temporarily works as GrabFood rider to support his family amid the COVID-19 crisis. Though he earns much less than his job as actor, he’s earned much praise on social media for his actions.
From Actor to Delivery Rider
A lot of people lost their jobs amid the COVID-19 crisis, including celebrities! And while many were content to simply stay at home and do vlogs, others found a way to become frontliners to support their family and also help others in need.
Thai actor Pheerawas Khunlanunthwatn, best known for screen name ‘Amp’, recently went viral after it was discovered that he works as GrabFood rider to support his family amid the COVID-19 crisis! Because he always accepted any booking he received, he managed to earn 30,000 Baht ($935) in just a month.
With so many people using food delivery services amid the pandemic, a lot of riders are earning good money from the standard fees plus tips they received from happy customers.
And while most riders take shelter during rainy days, choosing to refuse bookings amid heavy rains, Amp takes this opportunity to accept all the bookings. This earns him extra from customers who were also surprised to see him as their delivery rider.
While 30,000 Baht ($935) might not be as big as what he is used to receiving for as talent fee, it is much bigger than what delivery riders are used to getting. He said it is because he always accepts bookings, no matter the weather.
Amp started working as delivery rider for GrabFood after getting invited by a pilot friend who enjoyed his work as GrabFood rider amid the pandemic. He said that he enjoys getting to know other riders, people at the restaurant, and his customers.
He also said that this experience has taught him to value money and not waste it in the future because he realized just how hard it really is to work, particularly in jobs like being a GrabFood rider.
