We are so used to hearing heartbreaking stories about overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) getting maltreated in the Middle East, particularly in Kuwait that things like getting a birthday surprise from a kindhearted employer truly make us happy.
In a viral post shared by a domestic helper who goes by the Facebook handle, Might Jorlene Jhore, her employer in Kuwait gave her a cake and some presents. The unnamed employer was seen holding a cake in her hand while her children happily went ahead to surprise their nanny.
It was clear in the video that the employer was happy to give Jorlene her cake and gift while the kids were also quite excited to surprise their nanny. The elder child, a girl, carried a gift bag in her hand while her boss held a cake and another present.
As they arrived at her room, the child was truly filled with excitement – and Jorlene came out looking surprised and quite happy with her employer’s gesture. Her employer even lit the candle herself before asking her to blow it.
The surprised OFW shared the video on Facebook, telling the public to not be afraid to dream [of becoming an OFW] because there still exist a lot of kindhearted people like her boss in Kuwait.
Many netizens were happy for Jorlene, telling her that she was truly lucky to have such a kind employer.
While her story is not the usual for domestic helpers in the Middle East, this brings hope to many people. It is our wish that other OFWs would also find kind employers in their journey to another country.
