Grandma with Alzheimer’s Disease ‘Meets’ Granddaughter Every Day

As we grow older, our body slows down and gets sick easily. Aside from getting wrinkles and having brittle bones, there are also plenty of other health concerns that could affect us, including Alzheimer’s Disease, a medical condition that is often associated with old age.

Someone with Alzheimer’s Disease suffers from memory loss due to the degenerative nature of the condition. There would come a time when the patient could no longer remember even the ones dear to him or her, including own family members!

While that is truly a sad situation, one family has found joy in their difficult circumstances. The family’s grandmother suffers from Alzheimer’s Disease. She could no longer remember a lot of things or recognize many of her family members.

But what’s sweet is that she remains a kind, gentle person who loves kids.

In a video that has gone viral on NTD News via Storytrender, this grandmother was introduced to a baby who was just born a few hours beforehand. She had no idea that she’s the baby’s grandmother but looked quite surprised and excited to learn this child is her granddaughter.

But as the days passed, she would ‘meet’ her new granddaughter over and over again because she keeps on forgetting about the child and their relationship.

It was really quite bittersweet to watch the repeated encounter as she lights up each time she is told that the baby in front of her is her granddaughter. What is really sad is that she keeps forgetting the baby but it was good that she always feels happy whenever she’s ‘introduced’ to the child.

Isn’t this sweet?

What is Alzheimer’s Disease?

It is an irreversible condition that affects the brain, slowly destroying memory and damaging thinking skills.

It eventually leads to dementia, with the affected person not just forgetting about his/her own identity and loved ones but also leading to child-like behavior such as no longer knowing how to care for his/her self and hygiene needs.
