Durex Singapore Launches Durian Condoms and Other Novelty Flavors

Durex Singapore made waves on social media after announcing the launch of several novelty flavors, including durian and other local favorites! They’re also asking netizens about which flavors they are most excited to try.

Durex Launches Novelty Condoms

For many years, Durex and its competitors offered condoms of varied flavors. But these flavors were mostly common ones that are similar to popular ones used for candies and treats, including grapes, apple, and orange.

But the multi-national company recently announced new flavors – and exotic options are among the ones that are getting a lot of traction on social media. Durian isn’t exactly the most popular of fruits, particularly because of its bad smell, yet Durex decided to launch durian as one of their new condom flavors.

Many netizens are wondering whether the durian flavor will also have durian scent while others are making jokes about this particular flavor, especially because the durian fruit has lots of really hard spikes. LOL

Aside from durian, there will also be Botak coconut sherbet and Singapore chendol. This led netizens to offer suggestions for the brand to also create other favorites, including milk tea, coffee, ube (purple yam), chicken curry, and so many others.

In the announcement last March 25, Durex wrote that these are limited edition flavors and will be launched in 7 days. But eagle-eyed netizens were quick to count the days – and pointed out that the “7 days” will fall on April 1. Everyone knows that April 1 is “April Fools’ Day”! Could this be a prank from Durex?

Some netizens applauded the brand for the early prank, noting that if this really is an April Fools’ prank, then it is 7 days early. This makes the brand as the first one to release an April Fools’ prank this year. Others were not so impressed, saying that releasing a prank 7 days early simply spoils the element of surprise in the prank.

What is April Fools’ Day?

Each year on April 1, a lot of people and even brands or companies try to make pranks for April Fools’ Day (can also be spelled as April Fool’s Day). The origin of this annual tradition is highly disputed but one possible source is “The Canterbury Tales” by Geoffrey Chaucer.
