TikTokers Go Viral after Eating Ice from Supermarket Freezer

How far are you willing to go to become famous? Well, for some TikTokers, that’s as ‘easy’ as eating ice from the supermarket freezer! Yuck.

TikTokers Eat Ice from Supermarket Freezer

There are so many people trying to be famous these days – and it is actually easy to do it through social media. While it would be a great idea to do something honorable to go viral, there are actually people who do rather stupid things just for their 15 minutes of fame. Tsk. Tsk.

Back in early 2020, the “licking ice cream” trend went viral on TikTok and other social media sites. This involved daring young people licking ice cream from supermarket freezers, then returning the contaminated item and escaping without getting noticed by the staff.

While that was disgusting in itself, a group of TikTokers from Malaysia are doing a variation to the challenge by actually eating the ice from the supermarket freezer, not the ice cream in the containers! That’s just so yucky.

Students identified to be studying at Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (Sultan Idris Education University) in Perak Darul Ridzuan, Malaysia, created a TikTok video of themselves eating the ice. The TikToker who uploaded the video even laughed at the man who was watching them from the store, looking at his friends as if they had gone crazy.

This man is just looking at them but what do they care? Oh my god, my friends are so weird,” the TikToker said.

Though these young students think they were doing something funny, they received backlash from netizens who could not believe that they did that! Considering that so many people open that supermarket freezer, you could only imagine the amount of bacteria and viruses there.

Obviously, [my friend] knows where to take the ice where it’s cleaner to eat. Of course, we won’t take the bits that are dirty and unhygienic to eat,” the TikToker later defended her friend.

But netizens were not buying it. Even if the freezer is for ice cream, the ice there is still not something you can eat.

Can Freezing Destroy Bacteria and Viruses?

Most bacteria and viruses are inactivated at freezing temperature. However, once the food thaws, the microbes can become active again. The freezing temperature simply puts them in hibernation.
