They say that a teacher is a child’s second parent. Well, that’s exactly what one teacher has proven after he sold his precious action figure collection to buy school supplies as farewell gifts to his students! Isn’t that sweet?
Teacher Sells Toy Collection for Students
Muhammad Nazmi is a teacher at SK Long Sukang, a rural school in Sarawak, Malaysia. At the school, many of his students were poor and could not afford to buy school supplies. The teacher understood their plight and would often bring some extra stuff that the young ones could use during their classes.
Amid the COVID-19 crisis, however, Nazmi was transferred to another school. He was also not able to meet with his class due to the COVID-19 restrictions. This made him feel sad, considering that he treated his young students like his own children.
So, the teacher decided to do something about it. Though he doesn’t have a lot of money, he wanted to give them farewell gifts before he moves to another school. Thus, he sold his precious toy collection so he could afford to buy them something.
“Due to the pandemic, us teachers weren’t able to see our students. Getting transferred during this time is truly sad,” he explained.
He took pictures of the collection and posted these on Facebook, hoping that someone would buy the stuff. At first, he thought that no one might be interested or that it would take a long time before someone buys the item.
But the teacher soon received a message from a potential buyer who offered RM2,000 (around $500) for his collection. Nazmi happily accepted the offer and hurried off the ship the items so he could buy gifts for his students.
The teacher happily bought cute envelopes, notebooks, pens and pencils, and other school supplies before lovingly packing each item to give as set for his students – and they were so happy to receive his gifts!
“So seeing them smile like that for one last time before I leave is meaningful and priceless to me,” he happily shared.
