A Facebook video released by Plaza Miranda PCP discussed a certain form of scam commonly occurring in Quiapo including areas such as Plaza Miranda, Quezon Boulevard, Recto Avenue, and Avenida.
In the video, an unnamed police officer detailed how the iPhone modus operandi which involves sellers of stolen iPhone units and buyers operates.
Initially, buyers will be lured to purchase the Apple smartphone because of its extremely low price. Sellers will let buyers inspect the iPhone for any defects. After a deal is reached, the seller will then discreetly switch the working iPhone with a dummy phone.
Unfortunately, buyers will not be able to check the iPhone they purchased until they reach home since sellers would discourage them from bringing out the stolen smartphones in public.
The viral post which has amassed over 50,000 shares on Facebook received several comments from netizens who were also victimized by such scam. The admin of the Plaza Miranda PCP page encouraged victims to go to their office to possibly identify the scammers.

How to Track Stolen or Missing iPhone
Theft is inevitable in this country. Thieves usually target Apple gadgets such as iPhone, iPads and iPod touch since these devices are very easy to sell.
Fortunately there’s a Find My iPhone to track your lost or missing gadget. Do remember to turn it on to help you recover your device and protect your data.
Here’s what you can do if you’re iPhone gets stolen.
- If Find My iPhone is enabled in your smartphone, open the app and select a device to find its location on a map.
- Remotely lock your device with a four-digit passcode using Lost Mode.
- Erase your device remotely to prevent anyone from accessing the data on your iPhone.
- Secure your smartphone’s serial number as the local law enforcement may require you to submit it should you file a report.
