Congratulations, to the new LPT (licensed professional teacher) Marichu Abregana!

From 4Ps Beneficiary to LET Topnotcher

While many people criticized the Philippine government’s 4Ps (Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program) for being a “dole out” that might discourage people from finding a job (because they can only receive the money if they aren’t working).

However, Marichu Abregana, a program beneficiary from Canbantug, Argao, showed that there are still those who truly benefit from it and are set to change their lives forever.

This inspiring young lady earned her degree in Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education (BEED) from the Cebu Technological University (CTU)-Argao Campus.

Born the second of four children to a farmer and a housewife, Abregana experienced hardships in life. Yet she didn’t lose hope. Instead, her challenges made her strive harder to reach for her dreams to provide a better life for her family.

Seeing that her parents worked hard to send her to school, even on days with heavy rains, she vowed that she’d make sure none of their hard work went to waste.

Because they live in the mountainous area of Argao, she had to rent a boarding house to be near her school.

There were lots of times when she experienced problems paying for the rent and other difficulties. Thankfully, their eldest sibling who was already working was able to help out.

She completed her degree as Magna Cum Laude last July.

And though Abregana didn’t expect to be in the top 10, this really came as a blessing for her and her family.

She now works as an ESL teacher in a company in Lapu-Lapu City – and that’s already a big step for her to help her family.

What is ESL?

ESL means “English as a Second Language,” a course or a special English program for non-native English speakers.
