Why Do We Wear Our Wedding Ring on the Fourth Finger?

In almost any part of the world, the wedding ring is worn on the fourth finger.

This long-running tradition has apparently originated long before medical science established the function of the circulatory system. During that time, people believed that a vein from the fourth finger on the left hand ran directly all the way to the heart.

This particular vein was aptly named ‘vena amoris’ or vein of love due to the left hand/heart connection. Because of this “connection” matrimonial etiquette experts decided it would be appropriate for married couples to wear the wedding ring on that particular finger.

Moreover, the Chinese have provided a more interesting explanation as to why the wedding band is worn on the fourth finger. The incredible theory based on Chinese tradition is rooted on the belief that marriage is the strongest relationship and the most important one in our life.

The enduring strength of marriage is demonstrated through simple hand movements.
