Video of the “Pizza Rat” Struggling Down the Subway Stairs Goes Viral

Caught on Camera: “Master Splinter” Struggles with Pizza Slice for the Ninja Turtles! Alright, we actually went a little overboard on that one but like many fans of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (the TMNT, the favorite superheroes of our generation), we couldn’t help but see a lot of similarities between this viral pizza rat at the subway and the TMNT’s own Master Splinter.

For instance, Master Splinter is actually a rat – he was once a lab rat before escaping to the sewers where he was turned into a man-sized mutant (along with four turtles) after exposure to some radioactive material. Also, like the ninja turtles, Master Splinter also loves pizza.

Meanwhile, the rat in the video is, well, a rat – and it’s probably on its way to the sewers though the video only caught it struggling with the slice of pizza down a flight of stairs. We’re not so sure where it had gotten the pizza slice in the first place but it was fun to watch the creature take a tumble down the stairs as it tries to bring the prized food home (to the ninja turtles, we’re quite sure about that!).

This viral rat and the TMNT were both based in Manhattan, New York!

Sadly, it noticed the intruder and dropped the pizza but we hope it went back to retrieve the food.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

The TMNT is a comic book franchise of superheroes whose fame peaked in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The series and its characters were created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird who admitted to indulging in pizza while creating the ninja turtles that they simply made this delicious food the TMNT’s favorite.

When the turtles were transformed into mutant humanoids, Master Splinter helped them out. It was the rat who became their father figure after he adopted them, naming the turtles as Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo, and Raphael whose names he found in a Renaissance book. He trained them in the art of ninjutsu.

The comic series was such a huge success that it sparked a number of animated TV series and a live-action series. The original animated series first aired from 1987 to 1996, at the peak of the ninja turtles’ fame.

A TMNT feature film was released in 2014 and another animated series has been airing since 2012 but the ninja turtles have not risen back to fame to match their past glory days.
