Supermarket Praised for Genius Price Trick to Stop Hoarders

Problems with hoarders? One supermarket found the perfect solution: a genius price trick that got netizens clapping. The genius price trick allows everyone to buy as many as they want, but the prices get very high the more you buy! That would surely stop many from hoarding.

Hoarding Problem

Hoarding of food and medical supplies is something that has brought a lot of problems across the world amid the COVID-19 pandemic. For weeks, supermarkets and grocery stores have no stocks of alcohol, hand sanitizers, masks, and basic grocery items because hoarders are buying them up for personal stock or, worse, to sell online for higher prices.

Genius Price Trick to Stop Hoarders

A lot of supermarkets are having a hard time stopping hoarders from buying all the supplies despite reminders and warnings. Others get angry as they still want to buy as many as they could afford, leaving very little for the other shoppers.

Genius Price Trick

Hellerup Foodmarket in Denmark has earned praise online for its genius price trick to stop people from hoarding. On the shelves of products like hand sanitizers and alcohol, signs tell shoppers that one bottle of the item is sold at regular price but buy more and each bottle will cost you 25x the original price for each bottle!

For example, one bottle of a brand of hand sanitizer costs 40kr (£$5.73) if you just buy one. However, if you plan on buying two or more bottles, that will set you back by 1000kr each ($143). Needless to say, the hoarding stopped and there was enough stock for all shoppers to buy.

The supermarket took to Facebook to explain the price trick, assuring shoppers that they are not trying to make a big-time profit on the pandemic.

What’s a Hand Sanitizer?

A hand sanitizer is a liquid or gel generally used to decrease germs on the hands. Alcohol-based hand sanitizers usually contain a combination of isopropyl alcohol, ethanol, or n-propanol while non-alcohol based products may contain benzalkonium chloride or triclosan.
