Raissa Robles’ Commentary after Miriam’s Death Sparks Anger

News of death of former Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago (also popularly known as ‘MDS’) shook the Philippines today, September 29, 2016 – but while thousands of condolences and tributes poured in for the feisty former senator and presidential candidate, there are also those who took to social media to write their own commentaries and opinions on her lie about being fit to run as president of the country, among other things.

Take for instance the commentary of Raissa Robles, an investigative journalist, who is also known to be a staunch critic of the current administration and an ally to the Liberal Party (LP) and former Pres. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III.

On Twitter, Raissa mused, “If MDS had become President and her VP had won, Bongbong Marcos would now be President. Think about it.

While Raissa was only stating a possible fact since Miriam did run for president with Bongbong as her running mate in the elections held just a few months ago, many social media users thought that this (Miriam’s death) is not the right time to comment on such things.

After all, Miriam had just died and her family is mourning her death; surely, it would be more prudent if things like these are best left unsaid and unwritten or perhaps put off to some later day.

While there were, of course, those who sided with Raissa and agreed with her musings, many were still not pleased with her tweet. She is entitled to her own opinion, of course, yet many wished she did not write this mere hours after Miriam’s death…
