Proud Daughter of Fisherman and Fish Vendor, Graduates Magna Cum Laude

Raul and Mary Jane Villamejor from Argao, southern Cebu in central Philippines may just be a fisherman and a fish vendor who face plenty of hardships in their lives as they send their daughter, Regine Cañete Villamejor, to college but all their struggles have found a beautiful fruit this week as she graduates as magna cum laude!

Studying at the University of San Jose – Recoletos in Cebu City, taking up Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts and Commerce, Major in Communication and Marketing, Regine was proud of her heritage.

All her friends know she is poor and a daughter of a fisherman – and she’s actually proud that her poor parents are doing their best to send her to school!

While there are a lot of teens these days who feel ashamed that they come from a poor family, Regine made that fact as her inspiration to strive harder in her studies, to make her parents proud, and to fulfill the family’s dream of seeing her graduate from college.

Ever since she was a kid and even when she comes home during breaks from college life, Regine helps out in selling her father’s catch.

She admits that the family had experienced a lot of hardships, with her parents even arguing about money at times yet they managed to help and uplift each other. She once asked her father whether he wanted to take more time to rest and the old man said that while he wanted to do that, he will strive harder to catch more fish so she could finish her studies!

Now that she’s about to graduate – and a magna cum laude at that! – Regine hopes to land a high-paying job so her parents can slow down as she will be the one to send her siblings to school.

Regine’s inspiring story has touched the lives of countless people on the internet, with everyone wishing her more success in life.
