Photo of Hugging Couple Goes Viral, Sparks Debate about Value of Wealth and Happiness

Which is more important to you: wealth or happiness?

A photo of a hugging couple believed to be taken somewhere in Thailand has sparked a debate over this theoretical question, with many people taking sides and offering their opinions online.

The heated debate started out when Facebook page “Humanity 4 Life” shared a photo of a happy couple. The picture appears to have been taken at a sidewalk, with the woman giving the man a hug from the back. The man was washing pots and pans at the sidewalk; though it was unclear from the picture whether this was taken in front of their house or a business establishment.

The identity of the couple and the nature of their relationship was unknown, but many assumed they were a married couple.

It’s more important to be happy than to be rich,” the page captioned the photo.

A lot of netizens agreed with the post, commenting that they also believe the same thing – for what is wealth when you are not happy, anyway? Many commented that people don’t need to be rich to be happy and that having a lot of money is no guarantee that you will be happy.

Happiness is the highest form of success,” one netizen even bravely claimed.

But not everyone agrees with that notion. Many scoffed at the idea that money is not necessary to be happy.

Yes, being dirt poor is Hilarious! It’s extra fun looking for dinner in the dustbins!” a netizen sarcastically commented.

Love is sweet. When money enters, love is sweeter,” another one wrote.

How to Be Content and Happy with Life?

Be grateful with what you have. When you realize that there are so many people who don’t even have half of what you have, you will learn to be content with life.

But stop comparing yourself to others – because there will always be someone worse or better than you. You might end up being bitter or vain.

Break the habit of feeling envious about what others have. While you can use that to set goals you can achieve in the future, being content with what you already have is one of the best ways to be happy.
