Having trouble quitting smoking? Well, there’s now an app to help you with that.
Quit Genius is a revolutionary smartphone application that aims to help smokers kick the habit for good with the use of games and videos. Designed by medical students, the software utilizes elements from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).
The app’s games allow you to track your progress regarding your personal targets. The animated doctor, on the other hand, delivers informative and inspirational messages to help you stay on the right path.
According to their official website, Quit Genius was founded by “a small team of best friends and medical students at Imperial College London.” They were inspired to create the app upon learning that “100,000 people are still dying annually in the UK from smoking related diseases.” They wanted to come up with a solution that’s both effective and fun.
Yusuf Sherwani, CEO and lead app developer, said:
“As medical students, almost every day we see patients who are suffering from the consequences of smoking cigarettes; many of whom want to quit but lack the necessary support.
“We really hope this app takes off and transforms the support available to them. We believe it could be a game-changer.”
Dr. Sanjay Agrawal of the British Thoracic Society’s Tobacco Special Advisory Group commented:
“This is a really interesting prototype and we look forward to seeing further developments of the game and research about its effectiveness.
“I like the idea of combining Cognitive Behavioural Theory with the power of fun in a stop smoking game. Its other potential benefits are its cost effectiveness and sheer reach by using smartphone technology. We’ll await further results with interest.”
The team hopes that the app will inspire smokers to permanently drop the cigarette. For more information, interested individuals can check out QuitGenius.com.
