Even though she and her dad were quite muddy, with her uniform ruined by the mud, one girl from Maragusan, Compostela Valley in Davao remained a cheerful young lady who had a lovely smile ready for the camera. Who would have thought that this lovely girl’s smile would get the government to fix their road ASAP?
The girl’s dad, Nel Tatskieboy Paulines, shared photos of the muddy road and his still-smiling daughter. He asked forgiveness from his daughter that she got muddy because they had no other way to pass through than this road which was so deep in some parts that his motorcycle would sometimes be halfway deep into the puddle!

But his daughter didn’t mind getting dirty. She went to school and she was with her dad – what more could she ask for? And that lovely, innocent and contented smile charmed so many netizens that the picture quickly went viral.
A lot of netizens praised the girl, saying that if she can still feel happy in that kind of situation, then she surely has a bright future ahead. She knows how to be content with her life and how to see positive things in a grim situation.
Of course, this also led to calls for the local officials to fix that road so this girl could smile more – this time from passing through a better road.
It turned out that the road was dug up for road widening in the past but was never fixed.
Thanks to the girl’s charming photo, the local government had taken notice and has made moves to get it fixed ASAP. This is a 1-km stretch that needs to get fixed.
After learning that the road is getting fixed after the girl’s photo went viral, many netizens suggested that other places should also find a way to go viral if they need their roads to be fixed as well.
