Mother and Daughter Fail To Answer An Extremely Easy Game Show Question

We’ve all heard that old proverb that says “two heads are better than one.” By definition, it means that two persons working on the same goal or thinking on the same topic can produce better results than a single individual can achieve.

Well apparently, that may not always be the case.

As you will see on the video below, two game show contestants (instead of the usual one) were asked an easy question and were given 4 choices but they still failed to give the correct response.

This funny incident happened at Australia’s Millionaire Hot Seat game show where Tania and Christina, a mother and daughter tandem, were asked to pick which one was not a dinosaur – brachiosaurus, stegosaurus, tyrannosaurus, or thesaurus.

The question was worth $200 and the duo, looking obviously puzzled, just decided that they will pass for the answer.

Eddie McGuire, the host, couldn’t believe his ears and had to ask repeatedly if they were really sure that they want to pass. The duo then walked away, leaving the host and the audience in disappointment.

What Causes Mental Block

Pat LaDouceur, a marriage and family therapist with PhD in Sociology and master’s degree in Clinical Psychology explained that the mind can go blank when it deals with anxiety and panic.

In her MentalHelp article, she explained that it can be a vicious cycle:

“The more anxious you are, the harder it is to remember. And the harder it is to remember, the more anxious you get.”

Many students experience test anxiety which may lead to failing exams and quizzes. She said:

“With the right intervention, cycles can be changed. Cycles feed on themselves, so a new response at several points can often disrupt the existing cycle… Test anxiety is a complex problem that happens deep in your brain. And the real key to ending it is to rescue your confidence. And that kind of rescue happens in stages.”
