It was New Year’s Day 2018 when Maggie Wells came to a realization that she’s just fading into the background when it comes to her children’s lives. She had only taken very few photos with her kids that year, mostly because she didn’t like the way she looked and didn’t want to embarrass her children.

With three kids, she was also concerned about what could happen to them if she’s gone, considering the many healthy problems that hound obese people. She wasn’t scared about passing, but was worried that when that happens, her kids would not even have photos to remember her.

At the time, Maggie’s son was 6 years old – yet they only had two photos together! Sad, isn’t it?

Tipping the scales at 300 lbs (136 kg) at the time, she promised to lose as much weight as she could for her kids. Ditching sweets and carbohydrates took a lot of willpower, yet she focused on her children to give her strength to continue with what she was doing.

After removing sugar and slashing her intake of carbohydrates, Maggie also began to take up exercise. Losing 24 lbs (10.88 kg) during the first month was the best reward this mom could ever experience. This motivated her further, leading her to keep the diet.

She incorporated fruits and vegetables into her diet, even later following a ketogenic diet. This changed her life so much that not only did she lose a lot of weight, 185 lbs (83.9 kg) to be exact, she also gained more confidence. She’s no longer afraid to take photos with her kids – and she’s taken a lot of pictures to make up for the ones she missed.

Congratulations, Maggie!

What’s a Ketogenic Diet?

There are many different diets, including the ketogenic diet. This diet has similarities with the popular Atkins diet and other low-carb diets in that intake of carbohydrates is set to a minimum. But the ketogenic diet is different in that it encourages intake of foods with high fat content.

The reduction in the carbs and increase in fats puts the body in ketosis, a metabolic state that supposedly makes the body burn more fat for energy.

This diet is certainly not for everyone, particularly those with pre-existing medical conditions. So, make sure to consult a doctor before starting out with the ketogenic diet.
