Marriage Proposal Gone Wrong: Jeddah Prince Wants The Couple Who Publicly Proposed Arrested For Breaking Their Law

Wedding proposals are huge in major countries like America and are widely adopted by the rest of the world. In the Philippines, wedding proposals are made public and are sometimes used as a competition which one will go viral. The more likes they have, the better their proposal is.

Unfortunately for this man in Jeddah, his attempt to propose to his girlfriend is now faced with a controversy. Saudi Arabia is known for its strict national policies and every person, even tourist, must religiously obey. Disobedience to their rules is a sign of disrespect to and is punishable by law.

It all started with a man who was dancing in front of the huge Jeddah Corniche to propose to his girlfriend. The two are reported to be Filipinos.

However, what was supposed to be a happy celebration for the couple turned out to be a nightmare.

The proposal was reported by a local media in Jeddah, as such, it was seen by His Highness Prince Khalid Al-Faisal, Emir of Makkah. He didn’t take too kindly to the gesture of the couple and ordered that the two get arrested.

According to their laws, any form of display of affection in public is strictly prohibited. Much less by an unmarried couple.

At first, Filipinos were puzzled as to why the couple is being arrested. But when it was explained then the netizens finally understood that it was the law in Jeddah and the couple should have been more careful.

Dancing in Public

In a quite similar event, last August 2017, a 14-year-old teen was arrested for dancing the Macarena in front of the traffic in the city of Jeddah.

The teen was questioned for “improper public behavior.”

Given the couple’s gesture in the proposal video, they can also be arrested for improper public behavior on top of their violation for publicly showing their affection.
