Lost Dog Stays in One Spot Rain or Shine, Gets Reunited with Owner after Viral Video

A lost dog that stays in one spot rain or shine finally gets reunited with its owners when the video taken by a concerned animal lover went viral. It’s a wonderful reunion – especially since the dog has been lost for 8 months!

Lost Dog Found after Viral Video While Waiting Outside Shop

Most dogs and even cats have a good sense of direction and will know how to go back to familiar places, especially their home.

But one dog, later identified as Bairava, got confused with the directions while fleeing the place during the Hari Raya festival (festivities at the end of Ramadan) because of the loud noises of firecrackers and fireworks.

This led to the dog getting lost and unable to find her way back home. She was only reunited with her owners some 8 months later when her story went viral.

The viral video began when Jim, an animal lover, offered the dog some food while it was waiting out a shop in Siliau, a small town in Seremban District in Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia.

According to Jim, the dog looked depressed and refuses to get away from the spot. It was only after some coaxing that the dog finally moved to the shade to eat the food Jim offered.

Come here, dog… Come eat. Even if you don’t want to eat, please stand under the shade here,” Jim said.

Jim was worried upon learning from the shop owner that the dog has been sitting in the same spot for 4 days, rain or shine. It also refuses to budge despite being called in for shelter when it rains.

Many netizens were impressed by her loyalty but also worried about her owners.

After the video went viral, it finally reached Vaani, a 40-year-old mother from Melaka.

According to Vaani, they had adopted the dog as a stray 5 years ago. They named her Bairava. At first, they thought about releasing her back in the streets but realized that they couldn’t because she’s too dependent. So, they decided to adopt her.

She still didn’t know anything. If she fell into a drain, she wouldn’t know how to get back up,” Vaani explained

Around April last year, Vaani got sick. She decided to go back to her hometown in Melaka, leaving the dog with her husband in Seremban.

Her husband brought the dog to his company so he can watch it while working and staying there. A friend helped feed it.

So, the friend gave food to Bairava, but he forgot to close the gate properly. It was raining and it was Hari Raya, so there were firecrackers. Thus, she ran out (of the company’s compound),” Vaani explained.

When my husband came back at 1am to look for her, she was already gone.

They searched for the dog, especially when Vaani was finally able to come back from her 1-month stay in Melaka.

According to Vaani, they were reunited with Bairava in Siliau, which was around 4km from where she was lost.

She added that Bairava might have been found by authorities and possibly released near the shop because she had been neutered.

Can Dogs Get Sick in the Rain?

Yes. Just like humans, prolonged or extended exposure to wet, cold weather and rain can make dogs sick. According to Pet MD, it can lead to pneumonia, particularly with older dogs.
