Artists love to create art based on popular figures and people. For example, when Catriona Gray won Miss Universe 2018, a lot of artists made drawings, paintings, dolls, and other forms in the beauty queen’s likeness. And all of them would readily give these artworks to her for free!
But just because these artists make these artworks and don’t mind giving these to the artist for free, it does not mean that everyone is entitled to the same treatment!
One female ‘influencer’ thought otherwise, however; this would lead the artist to post their conversation of social media.
Some weeks ago, artist Hans Alcanzare uploaded a photo of himself beside a portrait he made of Catriona Gray – and it was absolutely stunning! The sketch looks so realistic that it even appears to be a printout of the beauty queen’s photo in black and white.
The portrait impressed so many people that Alcanzare’s post would reach over 18k reactions. Everyone admired his work.

One of those who greatly admired the artwork is an ‘influencer’ who also wanted Alcanzare to make a similar portrait. This woman asked Alcanzare if he could draw a portrait of her in the same size as the one he created for Catriona.
She added that she needed it the following week.
Even with such a short time to do the project, Alcanzare told the woman she would only need to pay him Php15,000 ($300) for the portrait, size 30” x 40”.
The ‘influencer’ angrily told Alcanzare that the price was ‘too expensive’. She told him she’s an influencer and would have paid him with a ‘shoutout’ if he does the portrait for free.
When Alcanzare refused, the woman blocked him on Messenger. This led the artist to share the encounter on social media.
“Hi Ma’am thank you for blocking me so I have now the opportunity to post this. My work might be just a piece of shape, curve and shade for you. But for me, I consider it as my greatest workmanship and able to call it my own “Masterpiece”.
I respect you as an influencer and I have nothing against with it coz’ I know that’s how you do for a living. But, I know you are getting paid for the product placements and endorsements as an influencer so please, don’t expect me to do something for free.
I hope you understand that I invest so much on my art materials, time, energy and effort. Getting a shoutout doesn’t even pay bills or fill an empty stomach. Please don’t look down on us (artists) and on our arts. Thank you! ☺️☺️☺️”
Many wanted Alcanzare to name the ‘influencer’ but he said he only hopes she would see it on her feed and realize she made a mistake. The artist said he does not aim to shame the woman, but to make a point and educate everyone about this.
