Guy Who Dropped His Engagement Ring in the Ocean while Proposing Gets His Happy Ending Two Hours Later

What could possibly go wrong in a perfectly planned wedding proposal?

A lot of things actually. In Matthew Pica’s case, he accidentally lost the ring when he dropped it in the ocean while proposing to his girlfriend Kayla Harrity.

The 25-year-old guy from North Carolina carefully planned his romantic-seaside proposal to his 24-year-old girlfriend. He invited both of their families to witness his surprise proposal at Southport, North Carolina.

But midway in his proposal, the unthinkable happened. The ring fell out of the box and before Harrity could even see it, it already dropped into the ocean.

Speaking to WBTV, Harrity narrated what happened: “I turned around and he was getting down on one knee. As he opened the ring box, the ring fell out of the box and fell through the cracks on the deck and into the water. I didn’t even get to see it before it dropped.”

Luckily, members of their families and several patrons of the bar helped Pica search for the ring since the water wasn’t that deep. Local residents even did their share by providing goggles and underwater flashlight to help the search team.

Their efforts paid off. After one and a half hours of searching, the couple finally got their happy ending.

“My fiancé, soaking wet, smelling like salty, fishing water, proceeded to get down on one knee and put the beautiful ring on my finger!” said Harrity.

What is an engagement ring?

In Western culture, an engagement ring signifies a formal agreement for marriage in the future. It is customarily worn on the left hand ring finger and is traditionally given by men to their prospective spouses. It comes in different styles but gold and platinum are preferred engagement rings these days.
