An 8-month-old baby died in Barangay Libtec in Dolores, Abra after she was hacked by her own father who was worried that there were people coming to kill him. Rollie Ben Cabalbal was not drunk when he killed Princess Joy; police also said he is not on the barangay’s drug list.
Still, he was having hallucinations that there were people out there to get him and to kill his family, revealed his live-in partner, Renalyn Agusin. Rollie Ben had also tried to hack Renalyn to death but the latter was able to escape with only some non-fatal wounds on her neck.
Meanwhile, Teodoro Cabalbal, the father of Rollie Ben, said that he heard the couple fighting and Renalyn crying but he was shocked to find that his son had already killed the baby and hacked his live-in partner.
According to Renalyn, Rollie Ben had been acting strange the previous days but she did not expect that he would kill their daughter. Neighbors revealed, however, that the two were constantly fighting; thus, the cops are looking into a family problem as the motive for the suspect running amok.
“We are looking at a family problem as a motive since witnesses said the couple often argued. When Rollie Ben saw his friend coming, he ran to the field and hacked his daughter. He even hacked himself,” said Dolores Municipal Police senior inspector Mathew Burgos.
Rollie Ben is still confined at the hospital but he will be facing charges of parricide and frustrated homicide.
What is Parricide?
According to Article 246 of the Revised Penal Code under ‘Parricide’, “Any person who shall kill his father, mother, or child, whether legitimate or illegitimate, or any of his ascendants, or descendants, or his spouse, shall be guilty of parricide and shall be punished by the penalty of reclusion perpetua to death.”
