Daughter of ‘Kwek-Kwek’ Vendor Ranks Sixth in Teachers’ Board Exams

While it is true that rich kids live a more comfortable life, have better access to stuff they need to study, and are definitely more privileged in many things compared with poor kids, a lot of poor students have proven that having no money should not be a hindrance to success.

This was proven yet again by Princes Bulaclac, the daughter of a ‘kwek-kwek’ vendor, who ranked sixth in the September 2017 Licensure Examination for Teachers.

The young lady had graduated from the University of the Philippines – Los Baños. Despite not yet passing the board exams at the time, she was already accepted as teacher, given course loads in senior high school.

As daughter of a ‘kwek-kwek’ vendor mom and tricycle driver dad, life had not always been easy for Princes but she promised to ‘pay it forward’ if she passes the board exams.

I prayed to God that if I fare well on the exam, I want to give back and teach first,” she told ABS-CBN News.

Her prayers were answered. Not only did she pass the exams, she did so with flying colors. Princes earned a rating of 91.80 percent, earning her the sixth place for the board exams for teachers in the secondary level.

While she had hoped to pass the board exams, she was pleasantly surprised after learning she actually made it to the top 10.

I was overwhelmed. I couldn’t believe I was part of the top 10,” she admitted.

As expected, her parents were also quite surprised and overwhelmed with this news.

We are enraptured in happiness for her achievement,” her parents reportedly told ABS-CBN News.

Now that she’s passed the board exams and already teaching in senior high school, what more could Princes ask for? Well, this young lady hopes that one day she will be able to complete her master’s degree.
