A beach in Zamboanga, southern Philippines has been named as one of the world’s best beaches, as picked by the National Geographic: Pink Beach on Great Santa Cruz Island.
In an article published on its website, the National Geographic wrote, “Hardly lacking in gorgeous beaches, the Philippines claims a pink-sand variety, too. The blush color comes from billions of pieces of crushed red organ-pipe coral, seen in every handful of sand.”
The site also added a tidbit of information for tourists who wish to visit the place, “The number of visitors to the island is regulated, and advance arrangements should be made through the tourist office in Zamboanga.”
Indeed, the site is correct in writing that the Philippines has plenty of gorgeous beaches but many of these have the regular grey sand while a number also have white sands, such as the famous beaches in Boracay.
Not too many people know that the Philippines also has a pink beach – and that’s truly something to behold! Of course, we agree with the local government that tourists to the island should be limited to ensure that the place remains pristine.
We also hope that no major ‘developments’ will be created on the island to prevent it from getting too commercialized that it could lose its beautiful nature – much like what happened to Boracay.
