These American Jeepney Conductors Will Make You Laugh

This funny video featuring five Bisaya-speaking Americans as jeepney conductors has been making the rounds on the interwebs lately.

The 3-minute clip has captured the heart of Filipinos since the young men are clearly having fun doing their thing, speaking the language fluently and accurately imitating the antics of jeepney conductors.

While calling passengers, one of them suddenly yells “Singapore, Singapore… Taiwan, Taiwan… China, China” which totally cracked me up. I didn’t know we had Asia-touring jeeps already.

It’s absolutely hysterical! You can watch all the madness go down here:

Originally uploaded over the group’s Hey Joe Show channel, the video has now been shared heavily on social media. It has likewise earned the approval – and laughter – of Filipino viewers everywhere.

Hey Joe Show

Launched on YouTube in October 2014, the Hey Joe Show is a comedy channel that hopes to promote clean fun entertainment. Currently, they have more than 50,000 subscribers on YouTube and 400,000 likes on Facebook. They have a combined view count of over 14 million – a pretty impressive feat considering they’ve only published 26 videos so far.

All five guys are former missionaries of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormons). They all served for two years in Cebu and it was there that they learned to speak the local dialect and develop great love for the country.

The Hey Joe Show members are Sumner Mahaffey, Connor Peck, Jake Mingus, Tylan Glines and Davis Blount.

In April and May 2015, the group visited the Philippines for a series of mall shows that took them to five cities. They also made several TV appearances such as in ABS-CBN’s Showtime. In each case, they were greeted by screaming fans, hugging them and dying to take pictures with them.

Melanie Fran Chua, a fan from Cebu city, admired the group for their humility. “They don’t forget who they are. They love the Filipinos and our culture,” she said.
